PlaySafe Cardiac Physicals

The UCSF Playsafe Sports Medicine Program provides free sports physicals with cardiac screening every spring for high school student-athletes. This comprehensive exam can find underlying medical and orthopedic abnormalities and can even help prevent sudden cardiac death. Details on the Spring 2025 event will be coming soon.

For High School Students
(Expected graduation 2026-2029)

  • Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email that has two forms attached.  These forms need to be signed by a parent/legal guardian for any student-athlete.
  • You must bring these signed documents with you on the day of the event.
  • These physicals are free of charge.
  • The sports physical and cardiac screening will require the student-athlete to move through multiple stations which will include a Vitals Exam, a Medical Exam, and Orthopedic Exam, and a Cardiac Exam.
  • We request that parents/guardians wait for their child in the designated waiting areas while they complete their physical.
  • This a screening exam for the student to be able to participate in athletics.
  • Note: If your child is currently being treated for a significant medical, cardiac, or orthopedic condition, we recommened that you consult with your primary care or specialty physician instead.
  • As a screening, this exam does not take the place of your normal visit to your primary care physician.  Please continue to see them as scheduled.

Student Registration

  • Primary Care Providers:  We are always looking for prmary care providers who are willing to perform the medical exam portion at the event.
  • HS Students: Unfortunately,  we will not be able to accomodate high school or middle school students as volunteers for the 2025 Cardiac Physicals.  Please reach out to us for alternative volunteering opportunities.
  • We are proud that our collection of community volunteers and UCSF specialists can contribute their experience in their given fields. Since 2009, our event has screened more than 5,000 student-athletes.
